2010 Toronto Bicycle Show

Well, nothing says time to get ready for spring like the annual March edition of the TBS. Of course, the weather has not been exactly impossible for decent winter riding - I was out every week until the week prior to Christmas and have been out at least a few times in January and February, although with certain weekends being eaten up by traveling and kid-related activities, it's hard to get it all in... Anyway, the usual suspects seemed to be in attendance, although I was pressed for time on my rounds. My good buddy Greg was there to pick up a mountain bike and I was just there to poke around - and to try not to part with too much money for "unnecessary" items.

I managed to get away with only acquiring some newfangled carbon handlebars (their lightness is quite breathtaking) which I have in mind for a little project bike that no one knows about yet ... converting a Jamis Eclipse frame to a Von Allen (or maybe a Van Allen - still not decided). What this involves is stripping said bike and repainting in a beautiful metallic emerald green with gold decalling and some classic world championship banding in strategic locations on the tubes - most likely seattube above and below Von/Van Allen lettering. I have a new ultegra gruppo in mind as this means all cables go under the bar tape for a very clean look. I see some of those cool jagwire titanium-look braided style brake and derailleur cables, perhaps some of those cool Zipp 404 with that orangy carbon look.... a nice Thomson masterpiece seatpost in black with matching stem .. attached to noted Zipp handlebars. Anyway, it is fine to dream about these things until you see the bill for all the work. I guess the things that make least financial sense are also the most fun. As I say, still cheaper than car racing. And clearly better than spending money on drugs. Although that's not much of an excuse because I can't say I use.

Plan to get out in the morning on the more recent bike of interest, a wonderful Colnago C50 Panaria edition with new Ultegra, my replacement for the above-mentioned Jamis.

Hope you get the chance to get out on a ride too!
