Dinner at Bigliardi's

Well, the National Post is not correct - Bigliardi's is not in fact closed. The Church Street institution is still alive, the food and service are as good as ever, and the prices for what you get are quite reaonsable. George Bigliardi is ever the congenial host, and Angelo (the principal and only waiter working on our evening, being Wednesday of this week) is the epitome of smooth, classic service. Needless to say my wife and I were thrilled with our meal - which I would call classic steakhouse - shrimp cocktail, escargot, surf & turf (times 2), onion rings (along with the beautiful baked potato), and, of course, the unbelievable spumoni (luckily, I know where they get it from). The wine George recommened was a bottle of merlot by the house of Lidi (2007) which was exceptionally smooth... I was shocked at how we seemed to eat very well and yet I did not feel the least bit stuffed - perfect in all respects!

And Bigliardi's always attracts interesting patrons. While not crowded, a rowdy table next door included Ken Shaw (the news guy) and former Phantom of the Opera singer Robert Pilon, who actually sang a short excerpt from the famous musical - it was quite a special performance.

As they say, "We'll be back".

Update - April 19, 2010:  Sadly, Bigliardi's closed its doors last Septemer 2009; and we did not manage to get back since the last review.  C'est la vie.  We did enjoy it while it lasted and understand there is a possiblity George will be back in a smaller venue, probably somewhere more suited to his style.

Hello world....

Well it had to happen sometime. First official worldwide blog communication. And I apologize in advance for all the typos you are likely to encounter.... Anyway, bit of catching up to do. I am feelnig a little slow at work so thought I should take advantage and get out soe creative thoughts (or at least babble on for a while....) ...oh! I am now busily fundraising for the Toronto-Niagara Ride to Conquer Canacer, 200km of pure bicycling pleasure ... to happen june 13/14 2009. i am also head of fundraising out of my law firm for the Law Challenge in the Sporting Life 10K to benefit Camp Oochigeas; we won last year, no doubt due to the countless emails I sent to bug people to donate - obviously all donations were made just to shut me up! And it worked. Anyhoo ... focus this year is on the RTCC (wont be quite as persistent as last year to the Ooch event, although will try to whip up as many donations as possbile, of course...) ...

btw were you aware that tonight we get a "waning gibbous moon" in Toronto? What the hell is that, you ask? Has something to do with moon phase, which I know as much about as signs of the zodiac, or less maybe.... ANyway, CP24 kindly informed me of this situation and I thought you deserved to know about it ... before you missed out on it .... and whatever it does....

Anyway, I should try to get back to work now ... be in touch.
